##### ItemScalar Multiplication

We can multiply a vector \(\vvec\) by a number \(a\) by multiplying each of the components of \(\vvec\) by \(a\text{.}\) For instance,

\begin{equation*} -3\left[\begin{array}{r} 2 \\ -4 \\ 1 \\ \end{array}\right] = \left[\begin{array}{r} -6 \\ 12 \\ -3 \\ \end{array}\right]. \end{equation*}The number \(a\) is called a *scalar*.
